Ingredients
Apple Bread Batter:
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (1 stick)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1½ cups green apples, peeled and diced
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Dutch Crumb Topping:
- 5 tablespoons cold butter, cut into small pieces
- ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
Vanilla Glaze:
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a loaf pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it with non-stick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the diced apples and chopped nuts gently until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- To make the Dutch crumb topping, combine the cold butter pieces, flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl. Use a fork or pastry cutter to blend the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the batter in the pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean. The internal temperature should reach 200°F (93°C).
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the bread cools, prepare the vanilla glaze by whisking together the melted butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once the bread is cool, drizzle the glaze over the top. Slice and serve. Enjoy!
