Ingredients

  • 20-30 small ripe apples
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Wash the apples thoroughly. Core and chop them into small pieces, leaving the skins on if you prefer a chunkier texture.
  2. Place the chopped apples into a slow cooker. Add the ½ cup of water to prevent sticking and help the apples cook down.
  3. If using, sprinkle the cinnamon over the apples for added flavor.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 4 to 5 hours. Stir the apples after a couple of hours to ensure even cooking.
  5. Once the apples are very soft, mash them with a potato masher for a chunky applesauce, or use an immersion blender for a smoother consistency.
  6. If desired, press the applesauce through a fine mesh strainer or food mill to remove any remaining skins or lumps.
  7. Allow the applesauce to cool before transferring it to airtight containers.
  8. Store in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days, or freeze in freezer-safe bags or containers for longer storage.
